Tre Galloway '19 & '25

Why did you choose Sandburg? I chose Sandburg because it's in the city where I grew up. Staying local gave me the opportunity to stay close to family and friends which in turn keeps me grounded and motivated.

Areas of interest: My areas of interest is for one, personal development. Whether it’s attending class to expand my knowledge, working out to improve my health or spending time with friends and family; I value growth in all areas of my life. I also enjoy exploring new cafés, restaurants and traveling!

What career field are you studying at Sandburg and how did you determine your career field? I chose nursing as my career field because healthcare has been a part of my life since I was born. As an infant, I was very sick and spent several months in the NICU undergoing multiple surgeries. While the doctor saved me, it was the nurses who cared for me daily and supported my family during such a difficult time. Their compassion and dedication has left a long lasting impact on my family and me.

My mother is also a nurse who works tirelessly for her patients. She not only cares for her patients with dedication and compassion, but she has also selflessly cared for our family and grandparents. Through her I have seen that nursing is more than a profession. It is a service, sacrifice, strength and love in action.

Prior to 2025, while working elsewhere, I witnessed an individual experience a medical emergency. Without hesitation, I stepped in to help. That moment stayed with me and ultimnately led me to reflect on my future — I felt a pull toward the healthcare field.

I hope to provide the same level of care that was once given to me.

Anticipated Sandburg graduation year: 2027

Goal after graduation: NICU nurse

What do you like most about Sandburg? What I like most about Sandburg is the flexible schedule — without it, it'd be extremely hard to continue working. I also love the in-house coffee shop!
