Frequently asked questions

Can I really come back after being away for so long?

Absolutely. College credits generally don’t expire. While there are some exceptions, such as certain biology courses for nursing, most classes you completed with a passing grade still count and remain on your transcript.

How long will it take me to finish my degree?

You can meet with an academic advisor to review your previous credits and create a personalized plan, including a timeline for completing your degree or credential.

How do I check how many credits I completed?

Your advisor will review the classes you previously completed. Any classes with a low or failing grade can usually be retaken.

What if I couldn’t finish because of financial issues?

If you’ve applied for financial aid before and didn’t qualify, we encourage you to apply again — your circumstances may have changed. The financial aid formula changed in 2024 allowing more students to qualify for funds.

Will my previous credits transfer?

Learn more about transferring credits to Sandburg. Official transcripts must be submitted from each college or university you attended for evaluation.

Can I attend classes while working?

Most programs at Sandburg offer flexible course schedules and formats for working students, including evening, weekend and online options.
