Library services

The library offers several services you can take advantage of, including:

  • Research and citation assistance: Schedule appointments through Marla Turgeon at 309.341.5207. (In-person and virtual appointments available.)
  • Course reserves: Textbooks from instructors to use in the library.
  • Three study rooms: Reserve through library@sandburg.edu, or call 309.341.5257. 
  • Computers: 32 computers available for use in the library. 
  • Device Lending: Checkout a chromebook or laptop by semester. For more information see our device lending guide.
  • Printers: Take advantage of two black-and-white printers and one color printer.
  • Scanners and copy machine: Scan to flash drive or e-mail to submit assignments or needed paperwork.
  • Sandburg Library A-Z database list: Use the database to find research articles related to your topic.
  • Interlibrary loan: Materials available from libraries all over the U.S. Email requests to ill@sandburg.edu.
  • Ask a librarian: Have a question for the librarian? Want to make a title recommendation? Share it here.

Checkout periods for library materials

Email us, call 309.341.5257, or text to 309.785.1596 to renew items, or  renew online by signing in to the catalog with your Sandburg email address and password. Contact the library directly for inquiries regarding laptop and Chromebook renewals.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find the library's databases/online resources?

There are two ways:

  1. In the mySandburg page look for the library resources card. Then click the Library Databases link.
  2. Go directly to the databases.

When is the library open?

Galesburg campus library is open Mondays through Fridays 7:45 am to 4:45 pm during fall and spring semester and 7:30 am to 4 pm during summers. Carthage campus library is open Mondays through Fridays 8 am to 5 pm during fall and spring semester and 8 and to 4 pm during summers.

How do I find a book?

Visit our online catalog to browse our print and electronic book collections. For assistance with ebooks, see our eBooks Library Guide. For general questions and assistance, email library staff or call 309.341.5257.

How do I get help with research if I’m not able to come to campus?

You can schedule virtual appointments with or submit questions to the librarian or through the Ask a librarian form.

How do I schedule time in the light board, One Button, virtual reality or podcast studios?

For questions about using the light board, One Button, virtual reality or podcast studio at the Galesburg campus, email the Faculty Teaching and Learning Center (FTLC), or call 309.341.5438.
For questions about the Carthage campus One Button Studio, ask in the library, room 4. 

How do I get a book, video or article that Sandburg library or i-share doesn't have?

Contact ill@sandburg.edu to place a request. 

How do I get the textbooks I need for class?

To rent or buy textbooks, visit the bookstore & spirit shop. Some instructors place copies of their course textbooks on reserve in the library. If your instructor chooses to do this, you can borrow these items from the library's main desk. Checkout lengths are set by the instructor; most reserve items checkout for four hours of in-library use.

Makerspace

Use the Sandburg Makerspace to take charge of your creativity — whether you’re a student, employee or community member.

Creative resources available to you

  • 3D printing
  • Laser cutter
    • Size of material can be up to 12x20 inches and no taller than 2 inches.
    • Bring your own materials, and print for free.
    • Some scrap materials are available.
  • Silhouette printing
    • Use the computer next to the Silhouette for access to the printer's software; login required.
    • Refer to the Silhouette manual.
  • Collaborative tables, walls desks
  • Poster and craft supplies
  • Teacher's station with projector, screen and whiteboard available for presentations.

  • Use final products in the classroom or your office.
  • Hands-on learning
  • Test out theories and strategies.
  • Meeting space for clubs, committees, working groups, etc.
    • Need to use the space for class sessions, group activities, or personal projects? Contact library staff to place an inquiry. Provide as many details as possible about your plans and anticipated attendance so we can best accommodate your needs.
